WTN: 2006 Zuani Collio Bianco

by Ian Sutton » Sat Jul 04, 2009 5:36 pm

A blend of Sauvignon blanc, Tocai (or whatever it's new name is), Chardonnay & Pinot Grigio - at least if the same blend as the 2004 has been maintained - no guidance on the label. Certainly an unusual blend - though not unusual varieties for NE Italy.

Bright straw coloured with a fragrant nose with Sauvignon blanc grassy notes to the fore, together with bright lemon and some tangy peach.

On the palate, again it's sauvignon blanc taking the lead, but lemon again provides balance and it works well with the acidity to make for a very zesty wine. A decent to good length finish of some but not massive complexity.

I like this a lot, though at the moment would say the sauvignon blanc element is a little too dominant - but this is matter of personal taste rather than quality. This would be a great wine to offer someone who wanted to try something a little different to their usual NZ sauvignon blanc.
