1997 Sobon Estate Rhone Rouge

by Shaji M » Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:55 pm

Found it at the winery a while back. Grenache 36%, Syrah 23%, Carignane 32%, Cabernet Sauvignon 9%. alc 13.2%. Really did not expect this wine to be anything above average after so long, but it had been perfect cellar condition :) Boy, was I wrong. There was an initial funk which blew off in 15-20 mins. What remained was an easy drinking, soft, fruity wine with earthy tones and personality to boot. A great argument for the quality of wines from the Shenandoah Valley. Wish I had bought more than the solitary bottle.

They do not make this blend anymore. Too bad!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
