TN for Rosh Hashana

I celebrated the Jewish New Year with several highly acclaimed reds. The first was the Flam Syrah Reserve 2011. It is drinking very well, featuring succulent red fruit--raspberry, coming to mind--complemented by a mouthful of spice and tannins. That was followed by the Castel Grand Vin 2006--a Bourdeaux style blend. The wine displays elegant tannins, coupled with earthiness. And has by now developed an array of tertiary flavors. Finally, I had the Covenant Blue C 2017--a varietal viognier produced by Covenant's Israeli operation. It is a wonderful sipping wine, exhibiting the varietal characteristics of an oily texture and honeyed flavors. It has enough acidity to carry it, but not enough to cut through food. That and its perceived sweetness subtract from its suitability as a food friendly wine.

Shana Tova,
Pinchas
