2005 Bustan Syrah - Israel, Judean Hills (7/24/2008)
Red/purple in color. A wonderful dusty nose of fresh forest fruit. A powerful attack of plum and berries on opening followed by a hint of smoky oak, forest floor/earth, spicy pepper and a rhubarb/lemony acidity leading to a yeasty, mouth drying finish with some sage. Only one hundred cases made by this small winery, and easily in the same league as many other fruit-forward Israeli Syrahs (Yatir, Galil Mountain "Yiron", etc.). Great, but maybe not very original, if you had to bring up one "negative" for this wine. (91 pts.)
