Arza - Anyone ever tried their wines?

by Matt Walter » Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:49 pm

I think that this may be a new vineyard out of Israel. Has anyone ever tried their wines?

Thanks!

Matt, Hi....

Anything but a new winery. Founded in 1848 by the Shor family (also owners of Zion winery), Arza has focused almost entirely on the producgion of kiddush (sacramental) wine, grape juice and inexpensive table wines targeted at the ultra-Orthodox market. Several years ago the winery, located in Mishor Adumim, began to produce inexpensive table wines, those too aimed at the same market. The winery is reported to produce close to 1.2 million bottles annually but as of my last tastings those wines were not of interest to even the least knowledgeable or sophisticated wine consumer. I will continue to follow up with occasional tastings to see when/if the winery begins to produce wines of interest.

You can find more information about the winery at
http://www.preker.co.il/israelwines/arza/ (there is an English language link there as well)

Thanks Daniel!

I believe that they have a red table wine and a CS out in the 2006 vintage.
