Israel Wineries Map

by YossiD » Wed Jul 13, 2011 3:39 am

Greetings everyone,

I have been working on a Google map of wineries in Israel and it's finally ready to share. You can see it here:
http://tinyurl.com/israelwineriesmap

The idea is to make it easy to see which wineries are nearby when visiting various parts of the country, and also to have contact information conveniently accessible in one place. I originally started making the map for my own use, but I suspect others will find it useful as well, so I'm happy to share it.

Due to Google Maps limitations, I could not show all the wineries on one page, so there's a link at the bottom of the list to a second page that has the wineries in the south.

I would appreciate the help of forum members with corrections/additions. I'm sure I'm showing some wineries that are no longer around and that I'm also missing more than a few. I also know that some of the email addresses I have are wrong.

Place markers are coded. Light blue are Kosher wineries, and a dot indicates a marker that is more or less accurately located. Markers with no dot are randomly placed in or near the correct town or settlement since that's all the information I could find, so I'd really appreciate help regarding locations. Yellow markers are for wineries that are missing contact information (phone number and/or email address).

Any corrections to the following are most welcome:
* Missing wineries
* Defunct wineries
* Name/spelling of wineries
* Address/location (GPS coordinates are good)
* Kashrut status
* Organic status
* Email address
* Phone numbers
* Website
* Visitors Center?
* Restaurant/cafe?

Additions/corrections can be posted here or emailed to me at ydwinerymap1@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance for your help, and please share the link with anyone you thing would be interested.

In case anyone is wondering, I have no commercial purpose for this map and it is freely available for anyone to use.

Please do not misunderstand what I am about to say - this work of yours is FILTHY!! Awesome, Fantastic, WOW!!

For all you non-tech literate folks, please do NOT think that Yossi just put some addresses into Google and he was done - WRONG!!! The amount of work needed to do this was impressive.

Many kudos to you my man and really GREAT WORK!

Thanks - I was looking for just something like this the last time I was mapping my stops between wineries.

Thanks and I will keep this for my next trip!

Actually there's also a winery map on the mapa.co.il website, but frankly I like mine better, and by the time theirs came out I was almost done so I decided to finish it. You can see it here and judge for yourself:

http://www.mapa.co.il/general/searchres ... 6&SortBy=5

If you have time, please look over the details on my map for the wineries you know and send me any corrections. Without help I'll never get all the details updated.

In the meantime, enjoy.

Yossi

WOW...who even knew there were that many wineries.

Impressive.

What I want to know is, how does the law firm pay you the big bucks yet you still have the time to do all the wine related stuff. :?

Nice work Yossie!

Law firm? Big bucks? Am I missing the joke or have you possibly confused me with someone else. Or have been going to the wrong office for 14 years?

Actually though, I spent many late nights (early mornings?) getting this done and it's still a work in progress.

There are surely more wineries than appear on the map, though I'm equally certain that some no longer exist. I attended the Home Wineries Fair at Soreq in April and I didn't manage to visit all of the tables, so I know I missed some of those wineries. Granted they are all quite small (<5000 bottles annually) but some are quite good (if you're interested have a look at my blog posting at http://www.yossiswinepage.wordpress.com - second posting down).

Thanks for the kudos.

Congratulations Yossi. Fantastic map that is ever so useful. I was so excited to see it that I have taken the liberty of writing a post about on my blog, israelwinetaster.com, and have included a link to the map and a link to your blog at http://yossiswinepage.wordpress.com/ as well. I had not been able to find you to get your permission until now so went ahead and posted it anyway. Hope it's OK with you.
