Plan on trying the Mensch red and Mensch white. Synagogue function. With barbeque chicken and hot dogs. But mostly with good company.

Hi Harry shavua tov,

Friday night:

Psagot, Single Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon 2007: The first release for Psagot's flagship wine and quite a great one indeed, tasted blind I would have not guessed it was an Israeli wine but rather a fine and mature Margaux. A Cabernet Sauvignon from the Shomron aged 13 months in french oak barrels. Dark inky red towards purple with on the nose that was first muted but then opened up after a little while in the glass to reveal blackberries and blueberries, asphalt, loamy dirt and just a delicate hint of barnyard funk. Full-bodied and showing fine extraction with on the palate warm blackberries, cassis and tar followed by graphite and wet dirt, with a hint of black truffles, freshly cracked pepper, vanilla and backer's chocolate with balanced acid and integrated tannins on a long finish. A superb wine, very impressive. 14.5% Abv. Clearly at its peak but if stored well should hold it for another 1-2 years. I'd recommend to drink it now.

Teperberg, Efrat, Judean Hills, Red 2013: Never mind...

Shabbat lunch:

HHW, Pardess, Merlot 2010: Aged for 18 months in french oak barrels. Deep bordeaux red in color with on the nose raspberries and cherries as well as roasted herbs and toasted oak. Medium to full-bodied with on the palate, ripe raspberries, sour cherries, a hint of shaved pencil with touches of olives, tarragon and rosemary, more red fruit and then some white pepper and coffee beans with nice acidity and tannins dry the mouth on the long finish. Nice wine but my least favorite of the 2010 HHW wines I've tasted so far. 13.5% Abv.

Best,

Hi, Harry, shavu'a tov,

Friday night: 2010 Four Gates Pinot Noir. Feel lots better. The five month wait from the last time was worth it. The cherry-berry flavors that overwhelmed the wine last time have quieted down quite a bit, even though they are still there. So the wine was vastly more enjoyable than last time. Still do not think it is where it should be.

Shabbat lunch: 2013 Tabor Adama Sauvignon Blanc. Clearly has some unfamiliar flavors for the SBs to which I am accustomed. My wife did not like it, at all. I was a bit more tolerant. Clearly, I'll be looking at others.

A good week to all,

Isaac

Hajdu Grenache 2010

Vignobles David Chateauneuf du pape 2012

Both were decanted for about 2 hours and showed well. Good week to all.

2006 Joseph Swan Russian river mourvedre. Lower than usual alcohol for this winery (only 12.5%) but well balanced and tasty.

Friday Night: We opened the Pacifica Cab/Merlot for kiddush and Psagot Edom 2010 to drink over dinner . Quite a difference. Enjoyed the intense, deep flavor of the Edom. Found the Pacifica lacking in depth, very unsatisfying.

Cheers

This past weeksend on Friday night I had the 2012 Lewis Pasco Project #1. The table loved it. Nice work Lewis. For Saturday lunch I had 2010 Domaine Ventura Rubens, not a table favorite but I liked it. It went well with hearty foods.

A wonderful week to all.

I took the 1/2 bottle or so of 2007 Castel Grand Vin out of my freezer and finished it up this past Shabbat. It was awesome. About 95-98% in the same condition as it was last week upon initial opening. I love this wine.

Interesting, as we also had the Ventura Rubens, but ours was the 2009! In our case everyone liked it.

Sorry so late in the week:

Alexander Reserve Cabernet Franc 2009 - bought this on a whim a few weeks ago, knowing nothing about it. The color upon pouring into the glass should have been warning enough, but all three who tasted it immediately said "prune juice." Which is what it tasted like. Oh well.

The evening was saved by a Ventura Cabernet Franc 2009, which is still good

Tulip Mostly Cabernet Franc 2011
Psagot Cabernet Franc 2010

And the clear winner of the Shabbat was: Ella Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

But what did the guests sitting around the table think about it?

Had some Terrenal 2012 malbec the other day. Unfortunately it doesn't live up to the 2010 - too pruny.

I agree the 2012 and 2013 Tereenal Malbec are not fun wines, the 12 was so nice some time ago - but that and the 13 have since gone to floral and dates - so sad.
