Local Wineries Festival at Ramat Hanadiv, April 9th & 10th

by YossiD » Sun Apr 06, 2014 5:23 am

For those who may be interested and haven't yet heard, the Festival of Wine & Plenty, featuring 20+ local wineries (Zikhron, Binyamina, Emek Hefer region - mostly), will take place this coming Wednesday & Thursday evenings (April 9th & 10th; 18:00-23:00) at the Ramat Hanadiv park between Binyamina & Zikhron Ya'akov.

The big three local wineries (Carmel, Binyamina & Tishbi), will of course be there, along with many of the excellent smaller wineries. Here's the complete list:

Abaya                Carmel (K)              Salomon
Aligote               Dadah (K)               Shfeya
Alona                 Eyal (K)                  Shirom
Arens                 Mivtsar Atlit           Shoshana
Argov                 Recanati (K)           Somek
Asambia             Reuven                  Tishbi (K)
Bat Shlomo (K)    Sadot (K)               Vortman
Binyamina (K)     Sagi

I hope to be there Thursday evening, and perhaps catch one of the smaller tastings as well. I can recommend from experience Somek, Shoshana, and Alona (plus the larger wineries if they decide to break out quality wines rather than entry-level offerings). Additionally, all three smaller (50 NIS extra, 14 person limit) tastings sound interesting, featuring verticals from The Cave and Vitkin Carignan in addition to a Margalit tasting. Quite a few of the wineries presenting are new to me, though, so this should be interesting either way.

Here's some information that might tempt some of you to attend.

Margalit Workshop: Wednesday Apr 9th @ 19:30
Cabernet Franc 2009
Enigma 2008
Cabernet Sauvignon Special Reserve 2005 (!)

The Cave Workshop: Thursday Apr 10th @ 19:30
The Cave Vertical Tasting: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
(I won't miss that one)

Vitkin Workshop: Thursday Apr 10th @ 21:00
Carignan vertical tasting: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011

Also I have seen a preliminary list of what the wineries will be pouring at the festival, and I can tell you that they're not everyday pedestrian wines - you certainly won't find them in the supermarket. Here are a few examples:

* Dadah Malbec Barbera 2011
* Argov Petite Verdot 2011
* Tishbi Carignan 2007
* Carmel Mediterranean 2009
* Sadot Shiraz-Tempranillo 2012

Advanced tickets are still available online (till Apr 8th) at https://www.tixwise.co.il/he/cramim2014

Also, if anyone is a member of the Hitech Zone buying club (htzone.co.il - like Hever but for hi tech companies). They're selling tickets at a better discount: NIS 69 instead of NIS 90 at the gate, and no online purchasing fee. If you have a Hitech Zone credit card there's another 10% off!

Finally, I have a few passes that will get you in for NIS 80 at the gate. Email me at ydwine1@gmail.com if you're interested.

And in case any of you are wondering, I'm not getting anything out of this other than fun and satisfaction. (Ok, maybe a bottle or two.)
