Dashe, Clos Du Val, Acapella (Corison)

by Brian K Miller » Mon May 04, 2015 11:58 am

We had some fantastic wines this weekend!

1996 Clos Du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A "basic" bottling, but with 19 years of bottle age, this wine not only sang but emitted an entire opera chorus!. Warm, mature cabernet character with still quite a bit of bold blackberry fruit. Fantastic with dry aged steaks from Five Dot Ranch in Solano County!

2013 Dashe Enfants Terribles Grenache (Anderson Valley). Tangy, white pepper, medium mouth feel. Classic strawberry grenache. a bargain at $24!

1999 Acapella Petit Sirah St. Helena Kronos Vineyard. When Cathy Corrison budded over her Kronos vineyard to Cabernet, some vines did not "take" to the grafts. So, for a couple of years she made an amazing, earthy, savory, black fruited Petit Sirah that is quite delicious right now!

Nice bottles. The Clos du Val is cool. I was once invited to a vertical tasting of about 20 consecutive vintages of Clos du Val's basic bottling (a friend had been collecting all that time, and the winery filled in the few blank spots). Very, very impressive.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

They have been doing what they do for 40 years!

I like their style pretty much across the wine list. They even made a good Primativo!
