WTN: 2015 Bachelet Bourgogne

by David M. Bueker » Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:09 am

2015 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (2/13/2018)
I have been having a little fun opening a few 2015 Burgundies, all at the lower end of the AOC ladder. The Bachelet Bourgogne displayed the ripeness of the vintage, with the fruit veering into the black cherry range, rather than staying clearly in the red. Preferences aside (I have seen a number of negative comments on 2015 as “too ripe”, as well as direct shots at this wine) the balance was appropriate, with firm tannins backing up the fruit. The oak came across as a supporting spice, and enhanced the fruit. The overall depth of the wine suggested a higher rung on the ladder, and showed notably better than several past vintages of the Cotes de Nuits Village wine from Bachelet.

I would be confident in letting this bottling age for a while to soften up the tannins a bit, and bring some additional breadth to the flavor palate.
