2016 Selbach-Oster Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Feinherb Alte Reben - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/19/2018)
This wine bears a family resemblance to the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Ur-Alte Reben, but it is clearly Domprobst. It's a deeper wine, showing more earthy richness, as opposed to the apple brightness of the Zeltinger cuvee. The similarity is in the beginning, where both wines show an almost thickness on the entry that then fans out to a more Mosel-typical profile. In this wine there is peach, celery and a skin bitterness that takes a prominent finishing role. Where it shines as Domprobst is the mineral depth. It's a full foundation that carries the rest of the wine around with zero effort. In a way it's a bit of a body builder version of Domprobst, versus the athleticism of say Schaefer's renditions. Both are impressive, but this one is hewn from the rock rather than sculpted. I will be very interested to see how this wine develops over a decade or longer.

Nice comparisons. It reads similar to the contrast between Willi Schaefer's own Sonnenuhr and Domprobst.
