WTN: 2013 Whistler Vineyards "Corvus" Pinot Noir

by Brian K Miller » Mon May 21, 2018 2:26 pm

This far Sonoma Coast producer has set up shop in the former Edward St. Johns site on Camelia Street, and we are really enjoying their pinots.

The 2013 Corvus bottling is in a sweet spot right now. There is deep purity of fruit here....cranberry, black cherry, forest floor. Oak is deftly handled and not obtrusive. Amazingly silky mouthfeel. This wine sang with Pork Chops, baked apples, and fresh asparagus. *(The recipe for the pork chops came from the Sinskey club newsletter, If anyone know Pinot, Sinskey does! )

Very enjoyable! Hat tip also to Michel Schlumberger, who provide a rich, malo yet minerally and savory Dry Creek Valley Chardonnay from their cool vineyards up against the ridgeline. I should give them another try-they went through a period where the wines seemed to drastically shift in style, yet this 2014 Chardonnay was lovely.
