Q: '75 Bordeaux

Have an opportunity to purchase some of the following '75 Bordeaux. Any recent comments, good or bad? I like '75 but many did not have enough fruit to outive the tannins.

Have not had the Beychevelle. None of the others is a shrinking violet, there are some tannins left. I'd probably put the Lynch and Ducru ahead of the Gruaud, which is pretty damn hard. I'd had any of them with rare meat, as I said these aren't delicate.

First, let me say I've not tried any of the wines you mention. However, I have had several 1975s such as Palmer, Mouton, Haut Brion. They are a hard, tannic bunch. There is some pleasure to be had, but only if you are able to get past the brick wall tannins. Given the choice, I generally prefer 1978s.

I've carried 2 different bottles of the '75 G-L to NYC offlines, and I'm at the least sure you were at the Gruaud vertical, because I borrowed your funnel.

And weren't you at Lynch offline?

Still, your point re tannins is correct. Given choice, I tend to choose '70 & '78 before 75 (and maybe '79 too)

Ok, well I don't recall the '75 GL. And I was unfortunately NOT at the Lynch tasting. I was skiing in Tahoe.
