Chateau Latif makes the news again

by Paul B. » Mon Aug 27, 2007 4:12 pm

Latif Jiji, the 79 year old home winemaker originally from Iraq, has made the news again with a two-page feature in the Washington Post. This gentleman has a Niagara vine that he planted in 1977 and has trained vertically right up along his house (unfortunately, the article doesn't show the entire vine - I'd love to see how it has been trained).

Paul, this earlier article in the New Yorker doesn't help on how the vine was trained, but it is interesting nonetheless:

I'll see if I can figure out who lives in that little white house and see if they will let me take a picture of the vines. I used to live a block away in an apartment on 93rd, on the corner of Lex.

It almost looks like the vine is growing on the north side of the building.

More research is called for here, that's for sure. :)
