WTN: Porta Select Reserve Pinot Noir 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:40 am

Bio Bio Valley, Chile.

If this is the winemaker's "Select Reserve" I would hate to taste their ordinary plonk!!

Lovely cherry colour.

Earthy and rich berry fruit on the nose.

Thick, tart cherry, sort of reminds me of cherry cough syrup (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), very earthy, to the point of being dirty and bitter, rather simple.

Thin and dirty finish.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian).

Now, I don't mind a bit of earth in my Pinot Noir, or other wines for that matter, but this wine tasted as if it had been made in dirty barrels. Yuck.
