2006 Francesco Rinaldi & Figli Grignolino d'Asti - Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Grignolino d'Asti (9/7/2007)
This is a serious wine, on another level from the other Grignolini I've tried to date. While I think it's suffering a bit from travel shock, the wine is very impressive: pure, red fruit (essence of cranberry), light- to medium-bodied, with a rainwater quality that I normally associate with cool-climate whites.

well damn. I just grabbed an order from CSW, but got more of the other Grignolino (La Casaccia). Should have gotten this too.

Hi Dale,

It's all good, really. I think the La Casaccia is more versatile and probably more open right now. But the Rinaldi was more "impressive" -- not for its flash but its sophistication and the impression it conveyed of having something in reserve.

Best,
Cliff
