Howie Hart this is a question for you-Keuka Lake wineries

Howie, any Keuka Lake wineries that are worth a visit? I'll be down in Alfred, NY this weekend and may have time to look around.

Hi Jon,
First of all, I'd suggest you edit the title of the thread and ask about Keuka Lake wineries to visit, as there are several people more knowledgeable than me, such as Thomas and Ed Draves. Keuka is the closest of the Finger lakes to Alfred and they have some excellent and well know wineries. First of all, here is a link:

Dr. Frank's, Ravines and Heron Hill are definitely ones you should seek out. Also, Bully Hill has a very nice Cafe if you want to stop for lunch. Chateau Frank is an offshoot of Dr. Frank's that specializes in bubblies. Rieslings are the star players in the area, but you will also find some nice Chards, PNs and Cab Franc ('05 was a good year for the reds).
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Jon, I can vouch for Dr. Franks and Ravines. We were there this summer with the NiCool group, both wineries were fab!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

Thank you both Howie and James. I'm sure I have enough information for my short visit - and then some. I'll let you know what we end up doing - if we find the time.

Jon:

If you are in the area and are looking for a little diversion, I can recommend a visit to the village of Hammondsport. It features lots of little shops and restaurants, has a pretty village square and there is a nice little waterfront park, with a great view of the lake and mountains.

The wineries Howie mentioned are all right outside Hammondsport too.

And, as an added bonus, my 16 year old son reports that he sees more "hot women" every time we're in Hammondsport than every other town put together!
