Yup, time to find out which wine/s forumites are thinking of opening! If I can shake this flu might sample the Jadot Chablis.

At the moment a 2002 Smithbrook Merlot which is better tonight than last. Good value but not particularly interesting (I'm getting picky in my old age!)

Tomorrow, probably a 1993 Isole e Olena Cepparello from Chianti-land

Tonight I got a brief taste of Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus 2003 which was rather better than my previous taste of it. This time round it not only was one of the less-bad '03s I've had, but it actually tasted of Burgundy, albeit a rather fat one. I think that I might get myself a half bottle or two to see how they age as it truly was enjoyable.

A Nøgne Ø IPA and Imperial Stout tonight in addition the the 5cl of the Bouchard. Probably some Drouhin Côte de Nuits Village '05 tomorrow.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Thinking about a Zin like the ones Jenise loves to hate, with some smoked country ribs.

Considering a 2004 Ribbon Ridge Oregon Pinot Noir. But perhaps it ought to be champage for surviving a very hard week.

Hmm. Likely to be a St Aubin Rouge 1er Cru. I'm not familiar with Burgundy or, to be honest, Pinot Noir as a grape so I'm quite looking forward to it.

In the unlikely but possible event of a sudden heatwave then the only bottle of white left in the house is an Australian Gerwurztraminer which I know nothing about. I bought it because my partner liked Alsace Gerwurztraminer and I was curious to see how different the Aussie one might be.

Probably a bunch of Zins, Pinots, and Chards tomorrow (Mendocino Wine Tasting). I need to pick up a wine club shipment on Sunday, so I will probably have a glass of the Elizabeth Spencer Mendocino Petit Sirah.

I'm on to pinot grigio, so I have an Australian, an Italian, and an American (sounds like the intro to a bar joke, no?)

Exciting? No. New for me? Yes :D

I hope everyone enjoys their bottles this weekend; I hope to learn from mine. . . .

I opened a Pinot Grigio from a local winery, The Silver Decoy in NJ (sorry Bob I was right there and my wife said pull over). I normally drink red but I made a light fish for dinner and thought the pinot would be better than the Chianti sitting next to it. These are my first WTN so bear with me

Green apple on the nose with a heavier consistancy than Pinot usually has, like a nectar. Nice smooth finish leaving a hint honey.

This is what the tasting notes on the winery web site had:

Our Pinot Grigio is clean, smooth and refreshing with bright inviting aromas and a tropical pineapple and grapefruit mid-palate. This wine is complex, and exhibits more texture than the average Pinot Grigio.

Great as an aperitif or matched with flounder, scallops or calamari. Enjoy!

Like I said, first effort...anyway, enjoyable.

Tonight, to celebrate the 3rd birthday of our son, we opened:
2004 Philippe Faury St. Joseph
nose: floral, minerals, bright blueberry fruit, later some smoked meat
palate: medium body, good acidity, bright blueberry fruit, not much in the way of tannins

Rahsaan had earlier suggested that this wine was a happy wine more suited for near-term drinkiing, and I'm here to report that he's right. I thought it came across as a Beaujolais-Syrah hybrid, but Jean shot that idea down. Nonetheless, a fun wine that went well enough with takeout pizza after a long day of birthday celebrations involving three-year olds.

Used a gift cert to dine out this evening, nothing special. Consumed a bottle of 2005 Rodney Strong RRV Pinot Noir. Both of us enjoyed the wine, nice Pinot nose and fruit.

Looks like this wine retails for about $23 in Ohio which is reasonable for a PN that shows typicity.
Cheers!

Gigondas

by Bonnie in Holland » Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:05 am

I opened a 1998 Delas Gigondas last night. Sublime, and ready to be drunk. It was hugely peppery when I first tried a bottle (about 6 years ago?) and now it's just beautifully mellow. Joe, gosh, that Palo Cortado sounds terrific...
cheers, Bonnie

I suggest Scotch next year.
I opened a 1997 Freemark Abbey (Napa) Cabernet Sauvignon with some grilled cow last evening. Not a great showing, drinkable, but the fruit is fading and a hole in the mid-palate. I doubt this will get better...I have one btl left and plan on drinking that before year-end.

Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
