About those NM sparklers. . . .

by A.B. Drury » Sat Sep 15, 2007 1:27 am

I've heard lots about 'em, so I picked up a couple today. It was an opportunity buy: they came with custom labels marking the end of the Cannon AFB, NM mission; effective 1 October it will be a different world around here, so it seems our base reps arranged for some special-made labels for DH Lescombes Imerial Kir. Knowing that not more than a few cases were likely affixed with our custom labels, I bought two bottles--one to drink when I leave this "place" for good in March, and one for. . . . laying down????

Hence my query: how long can a sparkler be stored and turn out to be merely drinkable, as to celebrate a date in the future? Not concerned with it being very good or whatever, just bearable.

Thanks!

To have something drinkable at the end of a space of time, you usually need to start out with something ..... drinkable.

We didn't find that product to our liking, AB. But then, we didn't have special commemorative labels on the ones we've tried!

OK, well, high standards aside, I re-submit my question :)

I am sure more knowledgeable folks will jump in here, but I believe most sparklers would probably keep in cellar conditions for 3 years or so, maybe a bit more.

Actual vintage champagnes, on the other hand, could still be fantastic after 10 years. I think that's about the oldest I've had.

Well, looks like maybe the 2nd bottle will just be a momento, b/c the drink date I had in mind is way more than a few years away. The first one will be enjoyed (maybe) in the near future, and perhaps I'll be reporting back on how terrible it is

A top of the line Champagne ages wonderfully. 30 years at least if stored correctly.

I have no experience with this sparkler but I suspect it won't be as long lived.
