the sound of my truck backing up to the local wine shop to load up on:
2005 Domaine "La Garrigue" Cuvee Romaine, Cotes du Rhone
Not decanted. The aromatics on this wine are simply stunning. A nose full of violets/licorice and assorted floral tones greet the taster and hold one's attention throughout the tasting experience. Just a tad of pony heiney/earth/leather to remind you that this is from the Rhone afterall. The palate is complex, with nuances of meat, Asian spices and herbs. Bright acidity with a finish just a touch on the drying side. No overt oak or alcohol is evident. think this should drink and hold for at least 5-7 years...it is so damn good right now I don't even care if it will improve. Even NJ, who is not generally a lover of Rhone wine, gave it 3 beeps.
Priced at $13 in a shop not noted for being a price leader. A screaming deal.
Imported by Eric Solomon/European Cellars, Charlotte, N.C.
