WTN: That BEEP, BEEP, BEEP sound you hear is...

by Redwinger » Sat Sep 15, 2007 7:32 am

the sound of my truck backing up to the local wine shop to load up on:

2005 Domaine "La Garrigue" Cuvee Romaine, Cotes du Rhone

Not decanted. The aromatics on this wine are simply stunning. A nose full of violets/licorice and assorted floral tones greet the taster and hold one's attention throughout the tasting experience. Just a tad of pony heiney/earth/leather to remind you that this is from the Rhone afterall. The palate is complex, with nuances of meat, Asian spices and herbs. Bright acidity with a finish just a touch on the drying side. No overt oak or alcohol is evident. think this should drink and hold for at least 5-7 years...it is so damn good right now I don't even care if it will improve. Even NJ, who is not generally a lover of Rhone wine, gave it 3 beeps.
Priced at $13 in a shop not noted for being a price leader. A screaming deal.
Imported by Eric Solomon/European Cellars, Charlotte, N.C.

Whoa! We'll probably get that down here ... I hope the price is as good. The 2005 Cotes-du-Rhones in general are looking pretty good, we just had one from Delas Freres last night that was dark, fragrant, all about cherry-berry and black pepper and tannic structure ... $8.99.

Robin,
I just edited my post to correct the price. It is still BUTT wine. As I mentioned, this shop is usually about 10-15% above everyone else in price, so you should be able to find it for ~$11 if it makes it to Louisville.

Thanks for the tip on the Delas Freres. I'll be sure to test drive a bottle if it shows up here.

Bill, couldja PM me the location or something? I can make an educated guess, but I'd rather just have it from the <whatever>s mouth.

Thanks for following up, Bill. My truck will Beep Beep Beep on Monday -- got a case in the cross hairs. :)
