DO Yecla. From Bodegas Castano.

Monastrell (aka Mouvedre).

Very dark purple in the glass.

Spicy, berries and strong alcohol on the nose.

Quite thick, dominating alcohol (perhaps this has something to do with the wine's 14.5 per cent alcohol), raspberry-cherry fruit, spicy, chocolate, rather simple, lacking any suggestion of finesse. With time, the alcohol burn became quite annoying.

Burning, shrill finish.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian). I would not purchase this again.

Your TN here is a big surprise Bruce!! Many reports as usual on this wine (all over the place) and have just purchased a bottle. After this report, not expecting too much.
I have noted white pepper in other vintages and one note thinks wine better if cooled down a bit

Cheers.
