"I would like to buy a magnum of d`Yquem please".

Taking a break at my local winestore.

After enjoying an afternoon at the Wines of Chile festival, I popped into my fave wine-store, caffe latte in hand. Need to take a break forumites! 4 Asian students from U of BC are inquiring about the magnum and learn all about futures!
One of them is gonna buy big time and I watch with interest, 3 of them want to visit West Edmonton Mall so I draw them a map. The single wine guy ends up buying `88 Lafite, `88 Calon-Segur, `96 Beaucastel and the `04 Super Tuscan Gaglolie which "we are going to open later"....(yikes). Cost was around $820 Cdn and happy customer says "he is going to be back tomorrow!".

What did I buy? A nice $18 Chile Syrah from MontGras, do not think I am quite in the same league! Hope you enjoyed my story.

Bob, you and I are in the same league, I think! I rarely spend more than $20 on a bottle, although I have gone as high as mid-$30s before.

Bob, the 375 mL bottle of '03 d'Yquem is going for $300 at said store. Do I want to know what the magnum costs?

My dad used to be a food chemist. I was astonished and very jealous to learn from him recently that he was good friends with his employers' wine buyer through whom he used to get bottles of d'Yquem so cheaply that he & my mum drank it regularly in place of table wine.

He in turn was astonished to learn how much it now costs.
