How about opening something special for your neighbour? We will try to celebrate yours you know!!

No turkeys around here (except the guy typing this), probably a shiraz/malbec I have my eye on. The Temple Bruer.

Down here as you know we celebrate Columbus Day. Some people have changed it to Discovers Day, and don't know if the First Nations People feel any better or worse about that title.

At any rate it is our last big day for family picnics or grilling on the deck as we will be. The fare is more condusive to brew than wine. We shall see.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

It's also my youngest daughter's birthday. I think something special should indeed be opened. Maybe I'll dig up some old shiraz for the forum. I have to admit, it is way too hot to think about Thanksgiving in these parts. The weather is better suited for Independence Day. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Bob and all my Canadian friends. I think we will still be hot on Monday so I will open something good, but white. Maybe an older Tahbilk marsanne. :)

There were turkeys all over the Adirondack park this weekend, for the first time this year. I don't know how they know it is Thanksgiving, but they do. They don't realize they are Americans. In fact, there seem to be more Canadians than Americans in the Park. Happy Thanksgiving.

Was there a presidential debate there this weekend? Was the Bush administration meeting there? Did Congress have a session? Inquiring minds want to know? (Was Robin spotted among the crowd?)

Well, we had three daughters and five grandkids over. They brought boneless sirloins in Teriyaki sauce, and Franks with them. We grilled them all inbetween rain drops, and enjoyed all with a variety of salads, and sliced Brandywine tomatoes.

Love and I washed it down with '02 Easton Fiddletown Zinfandel. Absoluetly wonderful.

Again; Happy TG for those up north, and Happy Columbus Day to those down here.

Cheers,
Carl

Hi Bob,

We had our turkey yesterday with all the fixings (stuffing, a wild rice dish, mashed potatoes, gravy, stir-fried asparagus with oyster sauce, carrots, and two different desserts). I picked an Ontario pinot to go with the meal - 2004 Flat Rock Cellars Gravity. It was luscious with a smoky earthiness, minerals and cherries. Nice match with the turkey but really best with the stuffing which had mushrooms in it. Probably the most burgundian Ontario pinot I have ever had and I really liked it. Of course, it was not cheap but I think the $30 was reasonable though not exceptional value.

Nothing too exciting going on here at Doris Ranch on a warmish Thanksgiving.
DeeDee , my fave collie, is learning have to have fun with the frisbee. Does a big wide circle at a fast pace and waits for the fris to come flying her way.
Wine has appeared thank goodness with chicken scallopini, a Water Wheel shiraz from Victoria! Drinking nicely, now time for Christopher Columbus on TV. Will the Vikings show up?!!

The Vikings haven't shown up all year. Looks like another high draft pick for them next April.

In the interest of political correctness I have renamed Columbus Day to "Imperialist European Explorer for which I don't get a day off" day.
