Suggestions for how to capture wine information and use it for purchasing?

by Greg H » Mon Nov 05, 2007 3:34 pm

New here, but I am enjoying the posts very much.

I have tried the search function, and this question has probably been asked and answered many times, but I did not find it.

As I increase my reading on wines (from online sources, books, wine periodicals, etc.), I have started building a list of wines that I would like to purchase. Assuming that I am not buying these wines on-line, I would appreciate suggestions for how folks carry the information with them to brick and mortar wine sellers. PDAs, iPODs, paper, tear-out articles? What tricks are there that streamlines this process? Thanks.

Greg, I have a couple of suggestions.

The easiest is to send an email to the retailer, and ask them to hold it for you. Call ahead, of course, and be sure the retailer has its computer at the store -- one of my favorite retailers has his at home, and my messages go there instead. The great advantage of this approach is you can send the email at your convenience.

I also use my cell phone -- it has a text function -- and I check the phone there. It also has an email function, so I can email my wantlist to myself and always have it available, either on the phone or by downloading from the store's computer.

Regards, and welcome, Bob

Welcome!!

I keep a Word document with all the wines I want to purchase. That way, I can take the piece of paper with me or I can email it to my PDA. It works for me, but I'm sure others have much more tech-savvy and streamlined ways.

Thanks for your suggestions. I really don't feel the need to go high tech, but that would work also.

As suggested, I think I will start with a word document and go from there.

Thanks again,

Greg
