Hmm, yes, I guess you are right. He calls the expression: "such ambiguous or backhanded comments", but mainly I read his comments as complaints of the use of the phrase as such, rather than what he thought it meant about the wine.

But I never said I was evaluating "objective quality" - my notes contain a disclaimer that I make no claims of objectivity. I'm only offering my subjective opinion- if folks are looking for objectivity they would be better off reading lab reports than any notes here.

I seldom use the term- the last 2 instances I can find were a Comte de Vogue and a Clos des Lunelles - but I'd be surprised if any "objective" flaws were found in any wine I described as well-made.
