- 2005 Moshin Vineyards Pinot Noir - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/7/2007)
Color- Clear, light ruby
Nose - Cherry - bright cherry, dark cherry, all the cherries; some violet and other floral notes; maybe a little plum, too; oak lingering in the background, but present
Palate - Sour cherries, cola, something floral or lightly vegetal, all in a way that say RRV to me; vanilla (from the oak), and oak (from the oak!). Lively acidity, but with a bit of body to balance it out. The finish is crisp and long, but sort of a one-dimensional version of the initial flavors.
This seems a little out of balance right now - 6 months ago the cherry fruit was primary, delicious and refreshing; now it seems to be receeding a bit, letting a little too much of the oakiness come through, and just doesn't hold together as nicely as it did. Still, I enjoyed this wine very much, and am glad to have more, and more coming from the winery. (87 pts.)
