WTN - Clos de L'Oratoire CNP 2000

by John S » Sun Dec 23, 2007 8:58 pm

Opened this at a small dinner party last night. Tasted it when opened with a roasted garlic and brie appy, and the food overwhelmed it a bit. But after an hour or so, this wine was kicking: I was curled up in a chair with my nose stuck in the glass, making quiet cooing noises. What a great nose! An earthy delight. The palate was medium bodied, quite elegant - on the burgundian side of CNP, if you know what I mean - with mushroom, earth, cherries, tar and garrigue. It was one of those times when the wine just fit the night perfectly, and became greater than the sum of its (objective) parts. Even our non-drinking guest, after watching us enjoying the hell out of the wine, demanded a small and taste, and immediately asked for a glass (damn her!). Objectively, an A- wine, but an A+ experience!
