$18.95 at Vintages; 14.5% alc./vol. Saturated, dark-sumac/garnet hue with a very dark garnet core. Big raisiny/plum-compote/primary-fruit/opulent-oak nose; happy, warm and inviting - sunshine in a glass. Big, warm and sweet on the entry; very fine balance with a firm structure, much warmth on the mid-palate (but no untoward heat), a warming, expansive mid-palate, and ripe/sweet-fruit/raisiny replays into the finish, which shows lots of woodiness. Long finish with nice woody/clean-lumberyard notes.

There are times when, contrary to my usual practice, I actually enjoy this sort of opulent/sunshine-in-a-glass/big-wood/in-ya-face kind of red - mainly in the dead of our Canadian winter. I feel like I'm getting my quotient of sunshine by sipping a glass of this wine. It's good Zin, in the full-fruit/full-oak mode and went very well with a plate of roasted Italian chestnuts and dried figs.
