WTN: 1998 Clos du Mont Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape

1998 Clos du Mont Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/6/2008)
Tasted earlier this week as part of an ongoing look into how the '98s are doing. This one is just fine. Lots of leathery, herbal and cherry notes, and a supple, warm (not alcoholic heat) mouthfeel. This is drinking very well right now, but has plety of stuffing to keep going for a while. Luckily it turns out I had one more bottle than I thought I did. My last one will go any time over the next 2-4 years. (90 pts.)

David,

I had similar results with the two different bottles of '98 CdP we opened with our Christmas meal. One was the 1998 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe La Crau, and the other was the 1998 M. Chapoutier La Bernardine. I still have one bottle of each to savor in the future.

Thanks for the TN. Clos du Mont Olivet was one of the most memorable places we visited when touring the Rhone some years back. I only wish their wines were easier to find around here.

Finding Mount Olivet

Paul - Take a quick trip to Springfield, MA. They have it every vintage at Table & Vine.

Thanks, David. T&V is a bit of a drive from here, but it sounds like I ought to make a pilgrimage there every so often.
