[WTN] Tamar Ridge 2005 Gerwurztraminer

I picked this up on a shopping trip shortly after enjoying a great Alsace Gerwurz, mainly out of curiosity to see what the Aussie version might be like.

=====

Aroma pretty hard to get hold of - suggestions of banana, grape and tropical fruit.

The fruit flavours in the wine follow the scent but there is also some classic Gerwuz spice and lychee and a floral flavour redolent of rose petals but on the whole, the flavours are pretty thin. The texture of the wine is thick and slightly oily and the wine is spoilt by a bitter aftertaste in the finish.

On the whole, quite disappointing for a £10 bottle.

=====

Lesson: On the whole, stick with regional specialities from the regions in which they're specialities :)
