Does anyone in U.S. make dry/semi-dry Scheurebe?

I love this varietal but other than the ice wine made by Phelps, I have never seen a dry or dryish table wine made in Ca. or N.Y either. I suppose Ca. is too warm for this robust varietal, kinda like gewurztraminer, but N.Y. should not be. I remember reading that some B.C. winerys offer wines from Scheurebe but could be mistaken. I also love Siegrebe but have never seen this varietal anywhere but from Germany and even then, rarely. Can anyone update me on the status of these varietals in North America? Also anyone making wines in N.A. from Huxelrebe or Ortega? Maybe this topic can fit into the one at noon moderated by Randy R.

Jim,

Some of the varieties you name are grown by Grey Monk in B.C.

I have not seen a dry Scheurebe in California.

Apparently it is grown on Pelee Island, which is located in Lake Erie. However it is blended with Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Here is a link:

And another thing(!): Why can't I find any friggin' domestic Orleans either? :evil: Oh well, at least they make GREAT Scheurebe and Orleans in Germany. As for Huxelrebe and Ortega, why bother? :D

Haven't had Orleans. I like Huxelrebe in dessert wine form. Darting makes a good one.

Hi Jim,
Randy Finley at Mt Baker Vineyards makes a Siegerrebe wine that I think is off dry. He also makes wine from Chasselas Dore, Madeline Angevine, and Muller Thurgau. These are all grown in small amounts in his vineyard near Deming WA, in the Puget Sound AVA. He makes red wine too, but the grapes are grown east of the Cascade mountains in the Yakima area. Mt Baker Vineyards has a tasting room where you can sample the wines. It is about a 15 minute drive from Bellingham WA, and maybe an hour from Vancouver Canada. You can also find the wines in Seattle area wine shops. The whites are very reasonably priced between $10 and $15.

Thanks Marc and everyone else for the info. I have had a Darting Huxelrebe B.A. and enjoyed it a lot. Last Siegerrebe I remember came from Germany bought at Sams in Chicago many years ago. I loved them but too weird for most peoples tastes I would think.
