WTN: Vesevo Falanghina 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Feb 26, 2008 7:53 pm

DOC Sannio.

My first Falanghina!! I love seeking out different and unheard of (to me at least) grapes.

Very dark yellow, golden in the glass.

Old cheese rind and peachy on the nose. (Hey, I couldn"t make up this stuff).

Slightly creamy, very fleshy lemon, grapefruit and tart green apple, spicy, peppery, quite tangy, lightly honyed, very clean and refreshing.

A tangy finish.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian) and a great deal at that price.

Hi Bruce,
Just last month, my wine group had a Compania wine tasting. Out of the three white wines of the region, Greco du Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, and Falanghina, I thought the Falanghina (2005 Dei Feudi Di San Gregorio) was the most aromatic (blast of lemon and lime with some nuts and a hint of floral; mineral texture, nice acid, good balance, lingering and pleasant after taste) of the bunch.
The Greco du Tufo (2002 Dei Feudi Di San Gregorio) I found the nose quite challenging, couldn’t get much out of it (six years old might have had something to do with it).

Salute
