WTN: 2000 Coffaro Petite Sirah

by Mike Filigenzi » Sat Mar 25, 2006 4:26 am

Nice dark color. Nose of smoke and dark fruit. Palate initially follows the nose, with black fruit, smoke, a little herbaceous character. Very firm tannins backing up that fruit which had me wondering whether this wine was just heading towards its peak or just ready to get just past its peak. Either way, it was classic petite sirah and very nice stuff.

Damn! Back in the days of the original CompuServe forum, I knew David (he even participated on the forum), visited his winery from time to time, and often tasted his wines.

Now I never see them. They just don't get over this way as far as I know. And doggone it, I miss them.

I always liked his Petite Sirah -- it was approachable early on, and it make a great BBQ ribs wine.
