WTN: 2000 St. Innocent Brickhouse

by Jenise » Sat Jan 19, 2013 7:08 pm

Finally, after drinking about one strange bottle a year or so every year for many years of a winery-direct case purchase, the 2000 Brickhouse seems to finally be a drinkable wine. But it's only that, drinkable. So the swampy flavors are gone and there's decent fruit with decent acidity, but there's nothing particularly interesting and certainly no depth. What an odd experience that whole case has been.

Gosh! Is this behaviour particular for this vintage or for this wine in general?

Neither! It's just a freak. A whole case of wine where each bottle was flawed in the same odd way: not corked, not secondary fermentation (no fizz, at any rate), just odd. I complained to the winemaker once, but he didn't bother to answer so I have no official opinion from the winery on this--but there has to be something. If the whole case was like this, mine wasn't alone.
