WTN: nearly extinct

by Mark S » Sun Jan 20, 2013 9:56 pm

Nusserhof, Alto Adige, Blaterle, 2009

This has "hipster" written all over it:
Hipster importer : LDM
Almost extinct grape variety: Blaterle
Natural winemaker...
so why didn't I like it? Well, I was first put off by the weird floral-petroleum scents, a strange combination of the flowery with flavors coming out of a gasoline pump lending a very distilled taste to it that wouldn't have been out of place in a naphtha cracker. Then, this was all covered over by cheap hotel room sanitizer. Really, I wanted so badly to like this wine, I really did, but if this is any indication of the heights of blaterle, let 'em go extinct. 12%

NoNoNoNo, Mark....we don't wanta let any variety go extinct. Why...it might rise to great heights if planted in Calif
or WashState or Oregon. You just never know. You don't want to make any wild-a$$ extrapolations based on just one data point.
Leave that to the LosAlamos types. Heck...sometimes we extrapolate from no data points!!!
I suppose you also endorsed the extinction of the DoDo bird because it was stupid?? Now we'll never know if the dodo was best
fried or braised!!! :-)

Mark,
If it helps at all, I want to like every wine I try.
Sometimes I don't. Sometimes someone else does.
Its cool . . .
Best, Jim
