This is a pathetic take-off of morel but so be it. Today I picked 8 large morels, the big blond mushrooms, and opened a 2009 Shafer Napa Carneros Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay to go with them. The match was made in heaven with the hazel nuttiness and butteryness of the morels with the viscous lemon oilyness of the Chardonnay. The acidity was perfect and I'll try to aquire more. The mushroom season is just begining so more fine Chardonnays or maybe Champagnes to come. Abv of %14.9 and cost of $26.50.
