WTN: Riesling at its most dangerous (2001 Trimbach CFE)

by David M. Bueker » Wed Aug 21, 2013 9:04 am

2001 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile - France, Alsace, Alsace AOC (8/20/2013)
Another bottle opened too soon, but better that than too late. This one was tighter than one opened in early 2013, showig a much stonier, more acidic character, with very focused, tart lemony fruit. Overall it was something like to a razor blade studded rock doused in lemon juice! Invigorating if you like that sort of thing.

Drink the last 2000 before you drink your first 2001! That goes for CSH, too!

I've been into the 2000s as well. The 2000 CFE VT was in prime drinking form the other week.

Sure,if you like Miel de Sapin, the 2000 CFE VT is not bad at the moment. If you are as patient as I am, there is another way, though: wait ten years or preferrably fifteen, then the terroir and the grape will - probably - have survived the botrytis. (It is no safe bet, mind you, and I will not leave that many bottles.)

I don't see the 2000 surviving its botrytis. In fact I see it heading further and further into the depths of its spice.
