Picpoul de Pinet

by Saina » Wed Aug 06, 2014 5:02 pm

I tried one from Gérard Bertrand today. The body of the wine seemed like something perfect for this infernal heat wave: light body, high acidty, low alcohol, no oak. Unfortunately, presumably from the yeast?, it smelled more of Sauvignon blanc than anything. Should this grape have slight SB aromas? Who makes good ones that don't stink of that horrible grape? :)
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Well, I recently had a California SB that strongly tasted of PicPoul, so...

Sure you will get some reaction from the UKers! Once they even mentioned Picpoul Noir from a well-known chateau.
I do like the white from Domaine Delsol, think Tom H posted a note somewhere

Four bottles of Picpoul in the cooler right now for a garden party/informal dinner Liz and I are hosting tonight. Seems to appeal to everyone and a safe bet since I don't know most of these folks well.
