Major Road works under way!

by Robin Garr » Tue Oct 07, 2014 3:22 pm

The forum may be down off and on over the next couple of hours as we undertake a major speed, design and security update. Please be patient!

Is "flato" just temporary, I assume?

Looks very professional!

Does that say "Flato"? Dang! We ordered "Flatus."

Nah, temporary of course. WLDG stuff will go in there in due course. It's not quite soup yet. Patience is still a virtue.

Yeah, we were counting on the cookies returning to normal once we were no longer unnaturally joining forum input from two sources.

We'd be moving quicker on the fine tuning and paint-up fix-up but Time Warner Cable is giving us Internet fits today. :P

have you tried deleteing cookies etc as discussed in David M. Bueker's thread?

I haven't beenable to login on any device yeaterday or until now, I sent an email to Robin who replied

'm trying to get a developer in Pakistan and a server host in Florida on the same wavelength to attack a very pesky and hard-to-identify bug. I am even more frustrated than you are, but I hope for progress today!

so I guess he's got his hands full...

It should be working now, James. The no log-in bug affected the admins and the techs, too! Nobody could get in to fix it. We finally got our server host to roll the forum back to a point just before the mess - a few recent posts may have disappeared, sorry :( - and then everybody could get in, although Flato is back. (Other bugs: The smileys on the right don't work, at least not in Chrome on my Mac), and there are no formatting icons for bold, italics and such.

Hopefully Ahsan, our awesome tech guy, will be able to tidy up all these loose ends soon.

I am at work now. I will try it from my home computer over the weekend.
Thanks!
I still don't see how to enter a url or other fancy pants things like that. My site says it is "on" but that is it.

I couldn't login in again yesterday afternoon, but I'm in now.

But last time I logged in I had my old 'skin', now I am logged in but have the standard one with lots of wide blue lines on headers

I'm not sure what that means, Peter. It sounds like you are seeing the new theme. Is there a vineyard background?

This is still a work in progress. The emoji icons don't work, and the formatting links above the message entry block (for italic, bold, etc.) seem to be AWOL. But getting into the forum and being able to post was job one, and that's looking good for now.

Patience continues to be a virtue. ;)

Robin, I found a way around the problem, but the {url} to the right of the page does not work for me on FF.

James - a number of the features on the page are not fully functional as of yet. Things should sort out over the next few days.

The new forum still isn't remembering my login status, despite several cycles of: logout, delete all cookies, delete forum bookmark, log in (requesting "remember me"), re-bookmark the home page. It probably has something to do with my company's corporate firewall and web proxy service. Oh well.

I have a suggestion regarding the skin: the "Forum Menu" on the left takes up a huge amount of window real estate, for items that I infrequently use. I think it was better when they were in a bar on the top of the window, as in the old forum software, or they could be placed on the bottom.

I like the drop-down menu to switch forums. Very convenient.
