1995 Chateau La Louviere (Pessac-Leognan)

This was served blind in the middle of an ecclectic and very interesting tasting. It had some stiff competition both before and after, yet still stole the show despite its humble origins. It showed some level of rusticity in terms of tannin, but overall was quite elegant in palate expression, not being heavy or overbearing in any way. Where it really showed well was on the aromatics. Dried flowers, red fruit, earthy/leathery, spice, roasting meat and even a hint of a scent reminiscent of pine. All of the different smells kept swirling in my mind until they coalesced into a sense of Christmas dinner at grandmother's house - a visual scene that encompassed the full experience of the wine. It's rare that a specific wine does that for me, but when it does there is a special sense of magic. This was a truly lovely bottle.
