WTN: Mich. Riesling and a Riesling aging question

by Jim Grow » Sun Oct 19, 2014 8:28 pm

2012 Left Foot Charley Riesling-Dry from the Old Mission Penninsula, this pale straw colored wine tasted indeed quite dry although the label stated 0.78% R.S. with a pH of 3.04 and tot. acidity of 7.8 g/l., harvested two years ago today. Light pear and apply notes predominated on the palate with lots of acidity, falling just shy of astringent. This is a wine that I think might age into something quite wonderful given 8-10 more years.

I also have a bottle of 2012 Smith-Madrone Napa Spring Mt. Riesling that my limited research indicates might age very well.
abv of 12.5%.. I would like to put this bottle away for a few (or more) years. Does anyone out there have any experience aging either of these wines?

I've had older (7-10 yr) Smith Madrone served to me in blind tastings. It holds up, but isn't terribly interesting IMO.
