I have been given a bottle of 1984 Château Mouton-Baronne-Philippe en hommage a Pauline should cellar it or should I get the bottle opener out?

Definitely get the bottle opener out. 84's in general are on the decline, and an 88 just a month ago was drying out a bit.

When you open it, come back and report. Would love to know how yours turned out.

1984 is generally considered an "off" vintage in Bordeaux (and most of France) and I can't recall ever drinking one. However, I have had some very good experiences with random bottles from "off" vintages, so you could be in for a pleasant surprise. I agree with Jenise; open ASAP.
