2005 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spätlese "Reiler" - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (11/9/2014)
Big, rich Spätlese that has lots of citrus and apple fruit, as well as a whole lot of sweetness. It is a great match with a spicy, Thai-style fried rice, but if served with more delicate fare it will need lots more cellar time. This could be a 30-40 year wine.

David, this is not the first time I have come across this weingut. Looks like we are missing out on something quite special up here :( .

Bob, Daniel Vollenweider is a very friendly guy and highly committed to getting the best out of his excellent but formerly unfashionable terroir at Wolf. I have visited his place at least twice along with people who used to post here like Peter Ruhberg, Yixin and Jean Fisch. There were memorable boozy evenings where a vast number of wines, not just Daniel's, were sampled at his place on the cliff side overlooking the Mosel. An overnight stay afterwards at his place or a nearby inn was mandatory :D .

If ever you get over that way, I'm sure that Daniel would welcome you.

Laura and I visited with Daniel in 2003. Hard to believe that was 11 years ago.
