Does Trillin's "ACI" index work for wine snobs?

by Robin Garr » Wed Jan 28, 2015 11:33 am

Please note that I said "wine snobs," not the serious wine geeks who populate these premises.

A new way of measuring pretentiousness.

Calvin Trillin's "ACI" process nails 60 percent of "connoisseurs." (Warning: This otherwise squeaky-clean essay uses one necessary vulgarity.)

That's a good essay, Robin, though it stings as I am someone who loves to get the check.

There is definitely some correlation for people who are really into wine. I've had good luck with the folks I met on the WLDG, all good souls, but some of the other groups, well... The aversion some people have to paying corkage is off-putting, to say the least, not to mention the puffery that goes along with trophy wines.

I love the concept, Robin, and we can all comfort ourselves that we are in the 40% minority of wine-lovers who are not a***oles.
