WTN: Novy Syrah Garys'Vnyd SLH '99...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Mar 04, 2015 1:04 pm

From far better storage conditions, I cracked this last night:
1. Novy Syrah Garys'Vnyd/SamtaLuciaHighlands (14.5%) 1999: Very dark color w/ no bricking; very intense blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/Syrah rather herbal/spicy/thyme/rosemary some toasty/charred/smokey/Fr.oak bit licorice/RCCola beautiful complex nose; bit tart/tangy/metallic very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/licorice/RCCola some herbal/thyme bit toasty/Fr.oak complex flavor w/ light/tangy tannins; very long tangy/metallic/tart some herbal/thyme/peppery strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/ripe slight earthy slight charred/Fr.oak complex finish w/ light/drying tannins; a beautiful expression of SLH Syrah but starting to dry out a bit; drink up soon.

I drank my 99's up long ago--wasn't 99 the first year of the syrah releases?

You may have seen me recently crowing about the '10's, which to my tastes is a great vintage. Picked up half a dozen bottles locally on close-out--$14.95 ea.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
