WTN: Two Chards...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon May 25, 2015 9:54 am

Tried these two over the weekend:
1. Dom.Gros Frere et Soeur AC: Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits (13%) Vosne-Romanee 2009: Light gold color; rather chalky.mineral/earthy strong lemony/Chard very light pencilly/oak/smokey fairly complex nose; tart/chalky/mineral light lemony/Chard bit steely/flinty bit rich/ripe flavor; med.long bright/citric/lemony/Chard fairly tart/chalky light pencilly/oak finish; an altogether pleasant WhiteBurg but would prefer a Failla SonomaCoast or Ojai Chard. $36.00 (CB)

2. OjaiVnyd Chard BienNacidoVnyd/SantaMariaVlly (13.5%) 2013: Light gold color; bright lemony/mango/melony/Chard light pencilly/oak quite fragrant nose; very tart/tangy bit mineral quite lemony/grapefruity/mango light pencilly/oak flavor; very long very tart/tangy/grapefruity slight metallic/tangy strong lemony/mango/Chard light pencilly/oak finish; needs age; a bracing acidity but not at all lean & eviscerated; should be a good one down the road. $29.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Been yrs since I've bought a WhiteBuurg. This was one DarrellCorti suggested I try since it hails from the Cote de Nuits. I liked it a lot and thought it fairly priced. No signs of premox.

2. The Ojai was very definitely in Adam's new style of higher acidity & lower alcohol. Yet I didn't find it lean/green/eviscerated and it packed plenty of flavor. But definitely not a style that'll play well in Monktown. A bit Chablis in style w/o the chalky/flinty character.
