WTN: Castelnau de Sudiuraut '09...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon May 25, 2015 12:00 pm

Tried this at BBB last Thurs w/ assorted desserts:
1. Castelnau de Suduiraut AC: Sauternes (MBalP; 14%) Preignac 2009: Light gold color; some ripe fig/Semillon light peachy/botrytis slight earthy/dusty pleasant light-weight Sauternes nose; very tart rather lean/austere lightly sweet light botrytis/peachy some earthy/dusty/stony flavor; med.short lean/hard/austere very light botrytis/fresh peach some ripe fig/Semillon quite tart finish; lacks the richness & lushness of a decent Sauternes; a lean/mean expression of Sauternes; the high acidity suggests some age may help but this is never going to be a great, or even, good Sauternes I expect; disappointing at the price. $35.00 (KK)
_____________
A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is a 2'nd label for Suduiraut for grapes picked earlier than for their regular cuvee. Never had tried one before...probably will never again try one unless the price is very good.

No reason to spend $35 on a second label when top wines from excellent producers are around for that much or less.

Yup, David...totally agree on that point. Been buying a fair number of '10 Sauternes at stupid/silly prices, given
the quality of Sauternes and the producers. Fortunately, like my punched cards and wardrobe of leisure suits,
Sauternes are not very fashionable these days.
