WTN: 2012 Hexamer Sauvignon Blanc Trocken, Nahe Germany.
I have been a Hexamer fan for quite a while now, great selection downtown and in my cellar. This SB really intrigued me so purchased a bottle, especially hoping to convert David B of this parish .
12.5% alc, $29 Cdn, SC, non-oaked I believe. AP# 7 745 028 004 13.
Research tells me that the regions of Baden and Pfalz can turn out some nice ones. Color here is a medium straw no sign of any green. Restrained aromatics at first but as it airs blackcurrant, gooseberry, nettles but nothing like that pungence one can find in certain Loire wines..Touraine for example.
Initial entry is dry, high acidity, very good length, Served blind " seems to have a riesling quality here?"
I did not find that, very much a restrained SB style here quite unlike NZ for example. Nice grapefruit, granny smith apples with a mineral tone finish, no pepper. It is quite racy and difficult to explain. Sure not what I expected but really quite enjoyable with a herb crusted pork tenderloin.
