WTN: "Sushi & Riesling - YUM"

by AaronW » Fri Dec 29, 2006 3:13 pm

Had dinner last night with some friends at a local sushi establishment and took my own bottle of wine:

2004 Von Hovel - Estate Riesling - Mosel-Saar-Ruwer - 8.5% alc. - $14

Match perfection at it's finest!

The off-dry style and great acidity balance was a perfect foil for the soy&spice flavors of sushi. This is why Riesling is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite white wines, just absolutely pleasurable. Gotta love the German stuff especially!

Aaron, I will remember your wine suggestion. We recently met friends at a sushi restaurant in Gaithersburg, MD and ended up spending hours there - it was wonderful. I'm sure we'll be going back soon. All it was missing was a good wine match - thank you.

No prob' John,
There's really not much of a better place to find info food/wine related than the WLDG. Thanks Robin Garr & forumites!

Our favorite wine matches for sushi are...though in no particular order:

New Zealand SB
Trocken or halbtrocken Reisling
Champagne

Can't go wrong with any of them.
