WTN:Chateau D'Auvernier Oeil de Perdrix '05(Swiss PN Rose)

The vineyard owners of Neuchâtel are quick to point out that their region lies on the same parallel as Burgundy. They carry some of the strictest AOC rules in Schweiz governing Pinot Noir and Chasselas resulting in some of the most interesting wines in western Switzerland. Although other Swiss regions have adopted Oeil de Perdrix (Eye of the Pigeon) as the nomenclature for Pinot Noir rosé, if you visit it will quickly be pointed out to you that it originated here. The Chateau D’Auverniers version is wonderful. Bright, lively strawberry and maraschino cherry fruit, wild flowers, charcoal, and crazy yet balanced acidity. Apparently, this wine has been exported to New York, but I’ve only seen the Chasselas locally. If you can find it, buy up! 13.0% Alc. About 10 CHF

Prost!
